Pigmentation
What is the Elite+ Aesthetic Workstation?
The Elite+ Aesthetic Workstation is a highly specialized laser Dr. Allen uses to treat a number of aesthetic concerns, including pigmentation changes in your skin, spider veins in your legs, and unwanted hair. The laser is equipped with dual wavelengths for faster treatment and results.
What types of pigmentation can the Elite+ treat?
The Elite+ laser treats hyperpigmentation, which is a harmless condition that develops when too much melanin, the skin pigment, builds up on our skin. Types of hyperpigmentation include liver spots, melasma, and freckles.
Liver spots
Also referred to as sun or age spots, these dark patches develop after spending too much time in the sun and occur mostly on the face or hands.
Melasma
These dark patches look a lot like liver spots, but tend to cover a larger area. Melasma most often occurs on the forehead, cheeks, or nose. Hormonal changes, like those during pregnancy, may cause these spots to develop.
Freckles
You can blame your genetics for your freckles, but like liver spots, exposure to the sun may cause them to darken.
Injury and acne can also cause changes to the color of your skin and lead to the development of unwanted dark spots.
How does the Elite+ improve my skin tone?
The Elite+ uses heat energy to destroy the discoloration and improve skin tone. The laser light targets your pigmented skin without causing any damage to the surrounding area and breaks up the color to even out your tone.
What can I expect during treatment?
During treatment, you may feel a mild rubber band-like snap as the laser energy targets your pigmented skin. Treatment time varies depending on the area being worked on, but Dr. Allen provides an individualized treatment plan so you know what to expect before you get started.
For best results you may need one to two treatments with the Elite+ laser. After treatment, the pigmented area may be red and a blister may form. As the treatment area heals, it may get crusty and then slough off to reveal the smoother, toned skin underneath. This healing process can take up to two weeks. To prevent scarring, it’s important not to pick at your skin as the treatment area heals.
